So my 18th birthday is coming up and i'm super excited because I finally have a proper house* meaning that I can have my party here meaning that I can control my environment meaning that I can make it super cute!
I've been extremely inspired by the amazing Tavi Gevinson and her magazine Rookie Mag as well as by various movies and tv shows - I have a feeling this may end up being as long/detailed as my prom post.
I'm planning to go all out on stereotypical, almost tacky party decorations (think The Virgin Suicides' basement party plus the decorations they had at the homecoming dance). The all-purpose store near my house has all sorts of party decorations so i'm pretty much planning to clear those shelves. A punch table and American high school party cups are also essential (fingers crossed the store has these - the party cups, not the punch table).
I want to make handwritten invitations, goody bags and have party games - I pretty much want to have the type of birthday party we all had when we were 10 but with wine involved. I feel like these days everything is celebrated by clubbing. While this can be fun once in a while, I really value actually talking to people in a relaxed atmosphere so I kind of just want to have a more traditional party. Sort of like the party Pandora planned to in Skins, except hers didn't turn out so well. I may even have a ~slumber party~ afterwards like she planned to (I also won't complain if someone as cute as Cook decides to come over afterwards to play twister and take my virginity).
Music wise, I think that artists like Beach House, The Drums, Beach Fossils, Best Coast, Girls and Craft Spells will perfectly suit the retro/old school atmosphere i'm going for (let me know if there are any other bands like these I could add to my playlist!).
Since i've just moved to a new country, i'm a little lost as to who to invite. I have managed to make a few friends and I'm trying to be more open so hopefully it works out. To be honest i'm absolutely fine with having like 5 guests - I'd like it to be relatively cheap anyway.
I can't wait to play party planner and to decorate my house! As this is a great excuse to take pictures with film cameras, I will most likely be making a post about the actual party so we'll see how successful I am.
Thanks for reading! Please leave me a comment about what you did for your 18th/what you would do for your 18th/what you did for your last birthday/what you want to do for your next birthday/anything!

* I lived in Hong Kong up until a month ago where my apartments were always either too small or too far away to host a party (which I always really wanted to do). Now that i live in Vienna and have a proper 2 floored house that is in the centre of town.
UPDATE: This didn't work out, ended up having a low key thing but was still an amazing day! I shall save these plans for my 20th :)
