If you've seen my Bye Bye 16 post or even my ~ Teen Bedrooms ~ post then you'll know about my *little* obsession. For those of you who haven't - I have an obsession with the classic American 90s teen lifestyle, which I have mostly experienced through films and via my older sisters since I was only born in '95, and am constantly trying to feel what i call teen vibez. Anyway, as you probably know, proms are a vital aspect of this teen lifestyle. I've just graduated High School and finished exams and everything so I should be having a prom. However, as I live in Hong Kong and go to an English school, in 2 days, I won't be having a prom but instead a dinner dance occasion called the Formal which is essentially an extremely watered down version of the prom. Seeing as the Formal will most likely not fulfill my longing for a real prom, I decided to capture some screen shots from films which involved homecoming dances, proms etc (of course most of the stills ended up being from The Virgin Suicides because, let's be real here, it's the most beautiful film ever) and insert a few shots of moments that I feel are the quintessential prom moments and give me mad ~prom vibes~ above: Carrie, happier than ever, before the pig blood incident; Samantha sitting on the bleachers of the gym wishing she'd never gone to the dance; Sam and Patrick hurrying off to their prom as their parents and Charlie desperately attempt to catch a few last snaps of them; the Lisbon sister's in the dresses their mom altered for them, fussing over their appearances as the boys tensely await them down stairs; the corsages; Trip Fontaine staring up at Lux Lisbon in awe as she peers down the spiral staircase; the cringey chaperones talking by the punch table; the tacky decorations; Lux and Trip being crowned King and Queen then dancing to Strange Magic.
My Formal shoes (which are cream and vintage from the 80s) are essentially replicas of the shoes Samantha wears to the dance in Sixteen Candles and my Formal dress is the same shade of lilac as the dress Sam wears to her sister's wedding in Sixteen Candles so hopefully I will be able to carry around some of that "I just wanna let them know that they didn't break me" attitude she has (that quote is from Pretty In Pink, but let's be honest with ourselves - Molly Ringwald plays pretty much the same character in Sixteen Candles and Pretty In Pink).
